The journal Tropical Bryology was introduced in 1989 to promote this neglected field of science. So far nineteen volumes have been published, covering more than 3000 pages. Further volumes are in preparation. From vol. 5 on, Tropical Bryology also includes contributions on tropical lichenology. Tropical Bryology is a computer-based desktop journal which publishes manuscripts submitted on disk. Although other journals have also begun accepting manuscripts on disk, Tropical Bryology remains the only scientific journal of which a version on CD is available, including text and illustrations, which can be utilized on computer by the subscriber.

Tropical Bryology is a non profit journal. Unlike other journals, it offers 50% reduction of the subscription price to subscribers from tropical countries, and 50 reprints free of charge. In addition, an "e-print", a reprint in digtal form is provided, which can be sent as e-mail attachement or posted on a webpage for downloading. The regular price is approx. $10 per hundred printed pages. The CD version is available for half price.
